Expositie ‘Flying Cats’ in De School, Amsterdam

21.03.2017 | Starting this Thursday, we’ll be displaying a new photo exhibition in collaboration with Fotolab Kiekie. In the hallway behind Restaurant DS, you can now feast your eyes on the photo series Jumping Cats by Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek.

Additionally, you can also purchase a special 12-piece calender of the Jumping Cats series at Café DS.

ABOUT JUMPING CATS

The saying goes that curiosity killed the cat, but then they also say that cats have nine lives. It is a popular theory amongst catisticians that the often fatal consequences of feline curiosity led cats to decide that nine lives would be much more efficient than one.

This gave them the freedom they so desired, as well as adequate time to sleep in cramped spaces, look bemused, sleep on clean piles of laundry, look apathetic, sleep outside, attack anything that moves, look disapproving and be scared of cucumbers.

Once they’d worked out how to put mortality on ‘paws’, cats were free to attack life with the gusto, agility, bravery and stupidity that only cats can. With Jumping Cats, Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek sets out to document the aerobatic prowess of flying felines in action.

ABOUT DANIEL GEBHART DE KOEKOEK
Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek creates authentic, unvarnished images that get to the heart of the matter. He provides an insight into the small worlds people create for themselves – they are self-sufficient microcosms, which serve them as a habitat for like-minded people who indulge in the same passion.

Before setting off on his own path as a photo artist, Gebhart de Koekkoek worked at Magnum Photos. He has been included in several independent art publications and exhibited throughout Europe, Asia and The United States. His first book “The World We Live In” got published by art book publisher Kehrer in late 2013 and was honored with the “PDN Photo Annual” award in 2014. Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek lives and works in Vienna.
